Long Beach Investing Over $10 Million Of One-Time Revenues In Community Infrastructure Projects
by Tiffany Rider, Senior Writer May 10, 2013 - The budget oversight committee continues to review the allocation of one-time dollars for infrastructure projects at its upcoming May 13 meeting, seeking to apply more than $10 million in revenues to repairing streets, sidewalks and other public infrastructure. Third District Councilmember Gary DeLong, chair of the budget oversight committee, told the Business Journal that much of the one-time revenue allocated for fiscal year 2013 was driven by oil prices and is designated for technology upgrades, gender equity in fire stations, public safety academies and more. |

May 21st, 2013 – A columnist for The Seattle Times recently suggested that drawing conclusions about a nonprofit organization based on a single overhead percentage is about as useful and fair as interpreting one’s own health based on a composite cholesterol score. While society has wised up to understanding that it’s the numbers behind the composite cholesterol reading that are the real indicators of overall health, the same can’t be said about wising up to the fact that a nonprofit’s true efficiency can’t be sized up by one number. |
