February 12, 2013 – Debbie Brooks opened Seventh Wave Surf Shop on February 1 at 2714 E. 4th St. across the street from her first business, Westcoast Auto Repair, repairing Volkswagens since 1978. Surfing has been a lifelong passion for Brooks, so opening the shop was “a no-brainer,” she said. Seventh Wave Surf Shop has a 1970s vibe, featuring surfboards by famed surfboard shaper Tim Stamps along with a quiver of used boards and brands. The shop also sells apparel from local brands like Bolsa Clothing as well as skateboards. The name of the shop comes from old surf folklore that surfers always want to catch the seventh wave of a set, Brooks said. Seventh Wave Surf Shop is open noon-5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday; closed Mondays. For more information, call 562/505-4822 or visit http://www.seventhwavesurfshop.com.
