March 12, 2013 – On January 27th, chocolatier Justin Hansohn and pâtissière Adriana Rivera (pictured) opened Anandamide at 2040 E. 4th St. in the heart of Retro Row. Anandamide psychedelicatessen is a raw vegan organic superfood chocolatier and confectioner, selling candy, chocolate, pies, cakes, juices, Fine Feathers Kombucha and raw decicacies. The interior of the shop is brightly colored with checkered walls and Anandamide boasts “tons of positive energy,” according to Hansohn. “It’s about helping people have more intense, complex experiences with foods that they are eating,” he said. “A lot of our items are rich in brain boosting minerals and nutrients. There are even psychoactive chemicals in the foods that we put out as well, such as raw serotonin. It’s in a lot of foods that people have experienced, but when foods are cooked and processed they lose the opportunity to have that heightened experience with the food.” Anandamide is open Tuesday through Sunday, 11:11 a.m. to 8:33 p.m. Closed Mondays. The psychedelicatessen also offers catering for events and recently provided chocolate for the TED Conference. For more information, call 562/991-8019 or visit www.blisscompound.com.
