YMCA President Alfredo Velasco


June 18, 2013 – Alfredo Velasco, who served the YMCA of San Diego County for 21 years, is the new president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Long Beach. For the past nine years, Velasco was the executive director for the Palomar Family Y, a $5.6 million operation that includes a seven-acre property and 10 offsite daycare centers. He has experience increasing revenues, revitalizing branch operations, managing programs and supervising projects for the YMCA. “We know Alfredo Velasco is exactly the right person to lead our Y during this important point in our history,” YMCA of Greater Long Beach Board Chair Craig Dougherty said in a statement. “He brings to our association an impressive YMCA background, along with extraordinary energy, creativity and charisma.” Velasco grew up in the Los Angeles area and attended UCLA. He is the 15th president to serve the YMCA of Greater Long Beach, which includes four local YMCA centers, an early childhood program and Camp Oakes in the San Bernardino Mountains.
