Crowley Long Beach

October 8, 2013 – The Crowley Maritime Corporation presented Thomas B. Crowley, Sr. Scholarships to three California Maritime Academy (CMA) cadets at the 2013 Containerization and Intermodal Institute’s Connie Awards dinner on September 26. Crowley Training Specialist Victoria Ellis, pictured, presented the scholarships at the event, held at the Renaissance Hotel in Long Beach. The recipients, pictured left to right: Jeff Harcq, Andrew Leonard and James McSweeney, were selected because of their strong academic performance, leadership abilities and financial need, according to a release from Crowley Maritime. Harcq hopes to go into the tugboat industry. Leonard is a freshman at CMA, and hopes to one day achieve the rank of master. McSweeney is working toward a U.S. Coast Guard 3rd Mate Unlimited license and a bachelor of science degree in marine transportation. Tom Crowley, Jr., president and CEO of Crowley Maritime, founded the scholarship in 1994 in honor of his father. The company has provided more than $500,000 in scholarships to more than 275 students at maritime academies since 1984.
