Liv Fit Long Beach

November 19, 2013 – In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Long Beach-Yokkaichi Sister City Association (LBYSCA), Toshiyuki Tanaka (left), mayor of Yokkaichi, Japan, and LBYSCA President Jeanette Schelin met at Recreation Park on November 15 to cut the ribbon on the redesigned Yokkaichi Friendship Park. Twenty donated cherry blossom trees were planted in the park in the spring. Tanaka visited Long Beach two weeks ago along with a delegation from his city. Yokkaichi’s port is the sister port to the Port of Long Beach. The group visited the Long Beach City Council, and took tours of various city sites such as California State University, Long Beach, the Queen Mary and the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center. “This is a major milestone in the relationship between Long Beach and Yokkaichi,” Schelin said in a statement. “It is a remarkable achievement and we are excited to receive the delegation and reciprocate the warm hospitality they extended to us during our recent visit to the city,” she added.
