HCP Awarded REIT 2013 Award

December 3, 2013 – Long Beach-based HCP, Inc., a real estate investment trust (REIT) focused on properties serving the health care industry, was recently recognized at the 2013 REITWorld Annual Convention in San Francisco with the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT) “2013 Healthcare Leader in the Light” award for superior sustainable energy use practices. HCP, Inc. has won this award six times in the past seven years. “We are proud to be recognized as a leader in sustainability,” Laurale Martin, president and CEO of HCP, Inc., said in a statement. “This award represents the results of the collective efforts of our Board of Directors, executive management and employees, which are all critical to the success of our sustainability program.” Sheldon Groner, executive vice president for finance and operations with NAREIT, administers the “Leader in the Light” awards program. “Sustainability is a key objective and HCP is at the forefront of sustainable energy use practices in the commercial real estate industry,” Groner said in a statement. “HCP’s efforts reduce energy costs, preserve resources and increase the tenant appeal and value of their properties.” Pictured, from left, are: Susan Tate, executive vice president of post-acute and hospitals; Troy McHenry, senior vice president of legal and human resources; and A.
