January 25, 2013 - After multiple construction delays over the past two years, residents and city officials await Saturday’s opening of the new Signal Hill Police Department and Emergency Operations Center.
The station’s ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony is scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. tomorrow. The $18 million facility located at 2745 Walnut Ave., which features 12 cells and a detective department, is an upgrade and expansion compared to the city’s previous station, city manager Ken Farfsing said.
Signal Hill’s former redevelopment agency funded the station’s construction without the need for additional taxpayer dollars, freeing up money in the city’s general fund to fully staff the police department and add a school resource officer to Jessie Nelson Academy.
